Frontera Produce redesigns packaging to commemorate Rocky Ford cantaloupe variety
EDINBURG, TX – (July 15, 2009) - Frontera Produce, LTD, a vertically integrated grower, packer and shipper of fresh produce in South Texas, announces today that the company will harvest and pack Rocky Ford cantaloupes using the original “Valley Gold” seed variety.
Grown in the Arkansas Valley of Colorado, Rocky Ford cantaloupes were first sold commercially in the United States in the early 1900’s. Today, Frontera Produce is the only grower to provide the original “Valley Gold” variety of the cantaloupes. The original seed variety coupled with the ideal growing conditions in Southeastern Colorado along with the rich water supply provide the Rocky Ford brand of cantaloupes with a higher ratio of sugar content over other conventional varieties making them sweet and juicy.
To commemorate this classic commodity, Frontera Produce has designed a new box showcasing original photography from a Rocky Ford cantaloupe packing shed in the early 1900’s to reinforce the ever growing popularity of the fruit.

Our customers will undoubtedly move these cantaloupes quickly off of their shelves through the Rocky Ford’s peak of season which begins later this month and concludes in early September.”
Rocky Ford cantaloupes are available to customers beginning the week of July 20, 2009 with promotable volume during the month of August and through Labor Day.
Frontera Produce will exhibit at the upcoming PMA Foodservice Conference and Exposition on Sunday, July 26, 2009 at booth #23. Team members will be available at the exposition to answer inquiries and share more information about this product offering.
